existe-t-il un livre ?

Based on a list of transformative reading experiences compiled during interactions with the public on different occasions, the work EXISTE-T-IL UN LIVRE ? (2018) explores concepts considered by the French philosopher and social theorist Michel Foucault in his 1967 lecture Des Espaces Autres (On Other Spaces). The significance of spaces and objects such as a library, a book or a photograph, which have both physical and virtual qualities, is investigated in an installation of videos, photographs and a tower made of books borrowed from the public. By asking people to reflect on reading experiences that in some way influenced their way of understanding, the work recalls the force of such moments and the value of slowing down in a world that rarely seems to do so.
