UNTITLED (NEW YORK) (2017) explores places of historical interest from the music scene of the 1960s and 70s. Songs of protest, struggle and loss form a series of covers that were interpreted by the artist and recorded over and over again onto audio cassette tapes. The Chelsea Hotel, The Dakota and Le Palais des Glaces were all stops on a photographic journey during which the artist explored and documented the spaces as they exist today, guided by conversations with the people she met there.

In the exhibition space, a projection of slides accompanied by audio cassette recordings and daily activations by the artist form a contemplative atmosphere of light, color, sound and rhythm. The tension between the installation’s anachronistic elements and live moments of activation is emphasized. This overlapping of histories allows for a reconsideration of musical emblems, their representation and their legacy.
